8 DALSA 4K Origin Cameras To Be Used In Quantum Of Solace

March 25, 2008

It was announced today, by DALSA Digital Cinema, that there will be a visual effects shot in film ,Quantum of Solace, that will use 8 DALSA 4K cameras.  We do not know much about the cameras because the company is keeping the details to themselves.  All we know is that the sequence involves 8 shutter-synchronized DALSA 4K Origin cameras shooting simultaneously.    Kevin Tod Haug, the visual effects designer, made the choice of using DALSA for the film.

“The DALSA Origin was the only uncompressed, high-resolution, low-noise camera system we could count on to do what we needed to do. The folks at DALSA were completely supportive of all our complex needs. We could not have done this sequence without them.”

After they used the cameras, David Stump, the consulting VFX cinematographer, had this to say,

“Working with uncompressed 4K gave us the ability to mine the maximum amount of detail from the scene. The low noise floor of the DALSA enabled us see every nuance of detail from the dark blacks of the clothing.”

Rob Hummel, President of DALSA Digital Cinema, had this to say about the experience,

“We were incredibly excited to be chosen for this complex part of the movie.  It was amazing as we watched all eight cameras shooting and pouring data into the CODEX disc units. In total, we recorded over 3.8 gigabytes of image data every second. After a year of fine tuning the DALSA camera system, we felt we were ready to put the camera to the test. Of course, passing this particularly tough test, with eight cameras synchronized together, was the best outcome I could imagine!”

Rambo 5 To Be Filmed In Bulgaria

March 22, 2008

Once again, we must watch this washed up action star try and be a hero. According to Screen Daily, Rambo 5 looks like it will be shot in Bulgaria where they’re building 10 new stages. Rambo 5 is scheduled to be one of the first movies to use these new stages. This guy is absolutely ridiculous and unoriginal. Come up with some new material man! It’s time for Sylvester to play a mentor or something. Not the hero! Well I’ll tell you one thing, this old man isn’t getting my money this time around. He’s played me for a fool once before and it will not happen again! Mr. Stallone also wants to make a sequel to Cliffhanger. I’ll HANG myself off a CLIFF before I go see Cliffhanger 2. This is as stupid as the picture of Stallone above. Don’t get me wrong, I loved Sylvester Stallone and I still love most of his work, but I just think he needs to let go and make something new. Please let us know how you feel about this story whether you agree with me or not. We love hearing from you guys.

Shia LaBeof Talks Indiana Jones 4 In A New Behind The Scenes Feature

March 21, 2008

On the official site for Indy 4, there is a new video of Shia LaBeouf talking and training for his adventure with Indiana Jones. The video is very interesting and makes me want to see the movie even more. The feature video shows Shia training to use a sword and it also shows him playing around with an knife. I can’t imagine how cool it must be for Shia, to be making this movie with Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford. And hearing John Williams’ music during the video just brings back that old movie magic feeling, simply beautiful. You can check it out here. Let us know what you think of the video.

It has begun folks. Warner Bros has just released the first official picture from the next installment of the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. We can’t tell much from this picture but we could read part of the headline on the newspaper Hermione is reading. It looks like it says More Disappearances at Mi….That’s all we can see but we can guess it says, More Disappearances at Ministry of Magic. It’s a good looking picture and this is just the first of many more to come to keep us Harry Potter fans busy until the film comes out. Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince is scheduled to hit theaters November 21, 2008. If you can find anything else in the picture we did not talk about, feel free to leave comments.

Del Toro Is Not 100% sure About “The Hobbit” But 99% Sure

March 18, 2008

Guillermo del Toro has been a very busy director lately. Del Toro is the top choice for directing The Hobbit at the moment, even though at one point it was the director of the Spider-Man movies, Sam Raimi. According to TheOneRing.net in a report near the end of January, Guillermo del Toro was 99% sure he was going to direct “The Hobbit”. Del Toro says,

“At this stage anything I say is of no consequence for I am not yet signed to do The Hobbit. Negotiations advance but are still ongoing. All I can say is that I am diligently going through all Tolkien material related to Middle-earth but only as a way of bridging a gap in my reading. I still respond the strongest to The Hobbit, but as an avid reader of Mythology I find a lot of his other writings fascinating. A perfect Cosmology forged from very eclectic sources.”

“It is my belief that your community will be a joy to be a part of, whether I do The Hobbit, or not.”

We will soon find out. Only time will tell….as usual. You can share your thoughts.
