Tobey Maguire’s New Comic Book Project

March 27, 2008

We all know Tobey Maguire from the Spider-man movies, which he had spent a lot of time on. Now Tobey is trying to do a bit of producing. Tobey will be producing movie based on a comic originally published by Red 5 Comics. Afterburn is about a postapocalypic Earth where the Eastern Hemisphere has been devastated by solar flare, which leaves this area abandoned by civilization but inhabited by mutated people and creatures. A group of people from a part of the Earth that has not been devastated, come into this area to recover treasures, such as the Mona Lisa and the Crown Jewels.

This movie sounds like it has a good story and could be a very interesting movie if done right. We don’t know if Tobey Maguire will be in the movie or not but I would not be surprised if he is. Neal Moritz (I am Legend) will be alongside Tobey on this project so it might be good. We’ll keep you posted on this story.

It has begun folks. Warner Bros has just released the first official picture from the next installment of the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. We can’t tell much from this picture but we could read part of the headline on the newspaper Hermione is reading. It looks like it says More Disappearances at Mi….That’s all we can see but we can guess it says, More Disappearances at Ministry of Magic. It’s a good looking picture and this is just the first of many more to come to keep us Harry Potter fans busy until the film comes out. Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince is scheduled to hit theaters November 21, 2008. If you can find anything else in the picture we did not talk about, feel free to leave comments.

Sam Raimi In Negotiations With Paramount To Direct Tom Clancy Movies

March 19, 2008

Variety is reporting that Paramount Pictures is in negotiations with Spider-man director, Sam Raimi to direct a series of movies based on Tom Clancy’s character, Jack Ryan. We have seen Jack Ryan in earlier movies such as The Hunt For Red October, where Alec Baldwin played Jack Ryan, Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger, where Harrison Ford played Jack Ryan. Ben Affleck also played Jack Ryan, but a younger Jack, in The Sum Of All Fears. I love Espionage films, especially ones that are based on Tom Clancy books. I personally liked Harrison Ford as the CIA analyst the best. Not so sure about Ben Affleck though.

Sam Raimi will direct Drag Me To Hell first which will start filming March 31, 2008. Paramout Pictures is pushing for a 2010 release for the first of the new Jack Ryan films. In the new films, Jack Ryan will be a younger Jack, which I do not think fans of the books will be too happy with. If you’re a Raimi fan or a Jack Ryan fan, this is pretty interesting news. We would love to hear what you think about this story! We’ll keep you posted!

Del Toro Is Not 100% sure About “The Hobbit” But 99% Sure

March 18, 2008

Guillermo del Toro has been a very busy director lately. Del Toro is the top choice for directing The Hobbit at the moment, even though at one point it was the director of the Spider-Man movies, Sam Raimi. According to TheOneRing.net in a report near the end of January, Guillermo del Toro was 99% sure he was going to direct “The Hobbit”. Del Toro says,

“At this stage anything I say is of no consequence for I am not yet signed to do The Hobbit. Negotiations advance but are still ongoing. All I can say is that I am diligently going through all Tolkien material related to Middle-earth but only as a way of bridging a gap in my reading. I still respond the strongest to The Hobbit, but as an avid reader of Mythology I find a lot of his other writings fascinating. A perfect Cosmology forged from very eclectic sources.”

“It is my belief that your community will be a joy to be a part of, whether I do The Hobbit, or not.”

We will soon find out. Only time will tell….as usual. You can share your thoughts.

Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Expected Split

March 13, 2008

Well folks, Warner Bros is expected to announced that the last Harry Potter book will be split into two films.  This sounds like good news.  Many movies make the mistake of putting too much into one film, which makes the movie feel rushed, or the make the mistake of leaving parts of the story out so it can fit into a 2 hour film.  Harry Potter movies, along with a lot of other films based on books, have been criticized for not being as detailed as the novels.  This is a problem which really can’t be fixed because a book needs to be very detailed to give the reader a visual and emotional sense.  This isn’t as important in film because you are seeing the visual.  By splitting the book into two movies, there will be more time to put all the details and more of the story into the film.  Fans should be very pleased to hear this news.  I really wish Sony did this with Spider-man 3.  They tried fitting too many villains into the same movie.  Eddie Brock should have been developed in the 3rd film and became Venom in the 4th.  Very disappointed with that film.

Three new photos have surfaced today from the latest Indiana Jones. That shot with the snake looks pretty funny, I’ve always found indy’s fear of snakes hilarious. The other two shots are pretty simple, but it’s always nice to see the world’s greatests adventurer. Remember only one more day until the teaser trailer, so get your whip ready!
