Oscar Award winning director Clint Eastwood is back this year with not only one but two movies he will direct. The two movies are The Changeling, and Gran Torino. The Changeling is a drama starring Angelina Jolie due to come out November of this year which will be followed by the release of Gran Torino, set for December. Not only will Clint Eastwood direct Gran Torino, he will star in the movie as well. This will mark his first role in a film since his Oscar nominated boxing movie, Million Dollar Baby. Houndog Will Be Released July 18

March 15, 2008

Empire Film Group Inc. owns the distribution rights in this controversial independent film. Houndog, starring Dakota Fanning, has been given a release date ( July 18 ) and will be opening in more than 500 theaters. Empire expects the film to bring in around 15 million dollars in box office revenues.

There was a Houndog promo reel that was shown at the Sundance Film Festival last year that got a lot of controversial attention. The character played by Dakota Fanning is sexually assaulted in one of the scenes. This made some people feel uncomfortable and outraged. From what we hear, the scene does not show the assault, but it is implied.

Dean Hamilton-Bornstein, CEO of Empire Film Group says, “We believe that ‘Hounddog’ will be one of the top, independent films at theaters this summer.” “It is a powerful, coming-of-age drama that deals with serious issues that should resonate with audiences. Dakota Fanning delivers an Oscar-worthy performance and we expect to see a lot of media attention.” The writer and director, Deborah Kampmeier, says, “I think we all wish that no children were ever assaulted. But it’s not helpful to the victims for our society to ignore the subject and pretend that it’s not real. ‘Hounddog’ takes this dark moment through an emotional recovery brought about through friends, family and music, to a message of hope.” Sounds like an interesting movie. We’ll keep you posted on anymore news concerning Houndog.

Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Expected Split

March 13, 2008

Well folks, Warner Bros is expected to announced that the last Harry Potter book will be split into two films.  This sounds like good news.  Many movies make the mistake of putting too much into one film, which makes the movie feel rushed, or the make the mistake of leaving parts of the story out so it can fit into a 2 hour film.  Harry Potter movies, along with a lot of other films based on books, have been criticized for not being as detailed as the novels.  This is a problem which really can’t be fixed because a book needs to be very detailed to give the reader a visual and emotional sense.  This isn’t as important in film because you are seeing the visual.  By splitting the book into two movies, there will be more time to put all the details and more of the story into the film.  Fans should be very pleased to hear this news.  I really wish Sony did this with Spider-man 3.  They tried fitting too many villains into the same movie.  Eddie Brock should have been developed in the 3rd film and became Venom in the 4th.  Very disappointed with that film.

Mike Tyson is stating that his friend, actor Jaime Foxx, will play him in a film about the boxer’s life. We all know that Mike Tyson’s life would be an interesting story to watch on the big screen, maybe we’ll get to the bottom of what makes him hungry for ears. Here’s what Mike had to say:

“I have a movie on the verge of happening, probably in two years from now,” Tyson, 41, said Thursday before giving a speech at the Summit View Youth Correctional Facility in North Las Vegas. “Me and Jamie Foxx are going to do a collaboration. He’s going to play me in my life story. We’ve talked about it many times.”  I’ve seen Jaime Foxx impersonate Tyson before (as most have), and it was quite funny, but I doubt this movie is a comedy so you can probably expect a different approach.

Will Smith As Barack Obama?

Will Smith Playing Barack Obama

Will big Willie syle play the possible president of the United States? Obama has spoken about his interest in Will Smith portraying him in a film about his life. Apparantly it’s the ears that make the two so alike. Obama said: “Will and I have talked about this because he has the ears!” I don’t know about Obama’s life story, but I’m sure that Will Smith would do a great job as he always does.

The Coen brothers’ ‘No Country For Old Men’ was the big winner of the Acadamy Awards this year. The film grabbed four Oscars which were: Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Supporting Actor, and most importantly Best Picture.  It was not expected for the film to do so well across the board, although the best picture was no surprise. Well, congratulations to the Coen Brothers, and to all the other winners of the night.
